Michael Jackson Faces Court CaseMichael Jackson could be made to fly to the High Court in London to testify in a breach of contract case, despite his doctor saying he is unfit to travel. The court heard the singer was waiting on test results about an unspecified condition and that "even in a best-case scenario it would be unwise to travel". However, lawyers for Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa said he could be "bandaged up" and appear in person. The King of Bahrain's second son claims Mr Jackson reneged on a music deal. He is suing the performer for £4.7 million, claiming that under the agreement, an album, stage play and candid autobiography were to be produced.

Jolie Weeps for Mother
Angelina Jolie has paid a tearful tribute to her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and dedicated her performance in new film Changeling to her. Bertrand, who died in 2007, was the "softest, most gentle woman in the world," she said at a press conference. Jolie added that her mother "was very much" like her Changeling character, Christine Collins. The film tells the true story of a woman in 1920s Los Angeles who fights for the truth after her son disappears. The movie, released in the UK on Wednesday, 26 November and directed by Clint Eastwood, details how the corrupt Los Angeles Police Department reunited Collins with a boy who was not her son.

News around.......

3,460 Students Grauate from Law SchoolCouncil of Legal Education on Tuesday charged Nigerian varsities to be involved in the ongoing law reforms embarked upon by the Federal Government to achieve the desired impact. Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Tahir Mamman, gave the charge at the call to bar ceremony organised by the school for the 3,460 law graduates who are being admitted to the Nigerian Bar. Mamman said the school has started taking steps in facilitating the extension of the reforms to law faculties in collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the universities themselves. While noting that the Law School fine-tunes law graduates in the practice and procedures of the law profession, the DG said the school has taken a first step by establishing a platform called, "the Conference of Deans of Law of accredited universities."He said it was inaugurated last week by the Chief Justice Of Nigeria (CJN), Idris Legbo Kutigi, and supported by Justices of the Supreme Court, top hierarchy of the Bar as well as representative of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).Mamman also disclosed that the Nigerian Law School has begun the implementation of the new curriculum, which has been in pipeline since the last two years.

Nigeria Moves to Curb Global Crisis
TO insulate the economy from the global economic meltdown, a meeting of National Economic Council (NEC), which met under the chairmanship of Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday canvassed for closer co-operation between the federal and state governments. NEC is the umbrella body for the nation's Economic Management Team (EMT) and the governors of the 36 states. The meeting was held at the request of the governors, who were worried about the effects of the global economic crisis on the Nigerian economy. However, after the meeting, the Governor of Central Bank (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, briefed journalists along with Governors Bukola Saraki (Kwara) and Peter Obi (Anambra). They explained that the forum reviewed the potential threats facing the nation over the global economic crisis, measures put in place to deal with the momentum and why Nigeria escaped the direct impact of the crisis. Saraki, who is also the chairman of the Governor's Forum, said that with the price of crude oil in the international market at its current rate, "there is need to tighten our belt for 2009." But he added that Nigeria is in a better position now than it was in 1982 when the fall in price of oil triggered a downturn in the economy.

Decay of Health Systemin Zimbabwe
TRUCKLOADS of riot police were yesterday deployed outside Harare's main hospital to prevent scores of doctors and nurses from marching in protest at the state of Zimbabwe's collapsing health system. Many of the group of around 100 health professionals took off their shoes to dance and sing in the parking lot of Parirenyatwa Hospital, vowing to stay away from work until a recent outbreak of cholera is brought under control. About 50 people, according to reports, are believed to have died of cholera this month, according to health officials, due to the rapid break down in sanitation in many parts of the capital. The protesters were also demanding that the government review their salaries which have failed to keep pace with sky-rocketing inflation. Some of the protesters held posters reading: "Enough is enough" and "Pay health workers properly." Zimbabwe's health system, once among the best in Africa, has collapsed under the weight of the world's highest inflation rate, last estimated in July at 231 million percent, with many hospitals unable to provide even basic medicines.

Obama , America's First Black President...

Democratic Senator Barack Obama has been elected the first black president of the United States, prompting celebrations across the country. "It's been a long time coming, but tonight... change has come to America," the president-elect told a jubilant crowd at a victory rally in Chicago. His rival John McCain accepted defeat, and called on his supporters to lend the next president their goodwill.
According to reports, the result will have a profound impact on the US. The American people have made two fundamental statements about themselves: that they are profoundly unhappy with the status quo, and that they are slamming the door on the country's racial past. Mr Obama appeared with his family, and his running mate Joe Biden, before a crowd of tens of thousands in Grant Park, Chicago. Many people in the vast crowd, which stretched back far into the Chicago night, wept as Mr Obama spoke. "If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," he said.
In a tensed election battle especially in the home states of the Republicans, Democrats ensured stiff challenge and outright wins in some of the key states. This will definitely go down in history as the greatest election of all times.

Overcoming Being a Coward

This Week on What’s Ur View?!, we would be taking a look at the
topic - OVERCOMING BEING A COWARD.

This is an issue which greatly affects virtually all levels of human growth. A coward is like a person who, out of his own fear, feels certain things cannot be achieved ordinarily. Even when the situation is conducive to pursue such, the person might still be a little uneasy trailing that goal.

From the lame man understanding, being a coward reflects one’s reaction to bully either in school, at home or even in the office. Interestingly, it goes beyond these which also cuts across the various sectors in the society. For instance in the nation’s education sector, certain things are obviously not the way they should be with students facing the major brunt. The authorities sometimes careless about students’ plights on Campus but the students themselves still wear the “suffering & smiling” costume with the notion that all is well. Questions should be asked and appropriate answers ought to be given in return. It’s not a matter of violence or rowdiness, but a peaceful demonstration and well coordinated dialogue would surely solve the problem.

Delving into the political terrain, some vital issues are still left “in the cold” particularly ones that involves finances. Often times the supposed leaders use ridiculously tax payers’ money to serve their own personal agenda. This could equally be termed as corruption which of-course is rampant not only in our nation but the world over. Corrupt leaders should be accountable for their deeds and we should be their “eye-watch” in the area of putting things right.
This is a major challenge for youths to be the vanguards of justice and equity in the society; let’s brace up and unlock the shackles of Cowardness to make the world a suitable habitat the way we desire.

Obama Denies Illegal Aunt
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said he was not aware that he had a Kenyan aunt living illegally in the United States. The Associated Press news agency says Zeituni Onyango lost a bid for asylum four years ago. The Obama campaign issued a statement: "Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed." According to AP, Ms Onyango is the half-sister of Mr Obama's late father. She has been living in public housing in Boston, it adds. AP says its information about Ms Onyango, 56, is based on two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official. Ms Onyango, referred to as "Auntie Zeituni" in Mr Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave America by a US immigration judge who had denied her asylum request, a "person familiar with the matter" told AP late on Friday. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because "no-one was authorised to discuss Onyango's case". According to reports, Ms Onyango has not been mentioned in the presidential candidate's speeches and "is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life".

Gaddafi Meets With Putin
Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has arrived in Russia for three days of talks expected to concentrate on boosting energy ties and arms trade. It is Col Gaddafi's first visit since Soviet times, and follows Vladimir Putin's trip to Libya in April. The two countries signed several big contracts at the time. A Russian newspaper quoted a source saying Col Gaddafi would offer Russia a naval base in Libya, though neither country has confirmed the report. "During these talks the colonel intends to raise the issue of opening a base for Russia's navy in the Libyan port of Benghazi," wrote the business daily Kommersant, quoting a source involved in preparing the visit. Russia has only one naval base operating in a foreign country - in Sevastopol in Ukraine. But Ukraine's president has made clear he would like that closed when Russia's lease is up in 2017. Russia has increasingly been looking for military partners abroad. Russian warships docked in Libya this month before taking part in joint naval exercises with the Venezuelan navy.

He added, "What we've been doing is working on the music and all the logistics. It is going to be more like a family affair, Janet's going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5: Michael, Randy, and the whole family. We're in the studio, we're planning on being out there next year."

Egyptian kid beaten To Death!
An Egyptian teacher at a primary school in Alexandria is alleged to have beaten an 11-year-old pupil to death. The maths teacher, Haitham Nabeel Abdelhamid, who worked at Saad Othman school, was furious because Islam Amro had not finished his homework. After using a ruler to punish him, the teacher is alleged to have taken the young boy outside the classroom and hit him violently in his stomach.
The young pupil fainted and later died in hospital of heart failure. He was taken from the school to hospital but suffered a sharp drop in blood pressure and heart failure. The teacher is reported by Egyptian newspaper Al Masry Alyoum to have told the prosecutor that he was only trying to "discipline the boy, not to kill him". Mr Abdelhamid was remanded in custody on manslaughter charges.

US Election: One Week To D-Day
The rival candidates for the US presidential election are beginning the one-week poll countdown with rallies in the key state of Pennsylvania. Republican John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin are both at a rally in the town of Hershey as they try to turn round an opinion poll deficit. Democrat Barack Obama is rallying in the town of Chester and has warned against any complacency. Latest polls suggest Mr Obama is still ahead but by a slightly smaller margin. Opinion polls show a healthy lead for Mr Obama in Pennsylvania but Mr McCain sees the industrial state with its disaffected white working-class voters as a key target on the road to the White House.

War Against Child Prostitution
More than 600 adults have been arrested in raids across the US targeting people who force children into prostitution. Operations took place in 29 cities in a co-ordinated action involving federal, state and local law officers, according to the FBI.
Officials said 12 large-scale prostitution rings were dismantled in the raids and 47 children rescued. Since 2003, 575 child prostitutes have been saved from exploitation by American criminal gangs, they added. Officials said many of the prostitution rings broken up were operated through call centres, truck stops, casinos and websites. The FBI generally gets involved in child prostitution cases that cross state lines. At a news conference announcing the results of Operation Cross Country II, FBI Deputy Director John Pistole said the arrests were made possible by intelligence gathered during similar raids in June. "Sex trafficking of children remains one of our most violent and unconscionable crimes in this country," he said. The 47 rescued children range in age from 13 to 17, and all but one are female.

Africa's Sexiest Ladies!

Now, who says we don't have sexy women in Africa. Well if you rather think "sexy" is a word meant to desribe the white ladies, your guess is wrong. Recently a poll for the Top 10 sexiest African ladies was rooled out and suprising or not so suprising, Nigeria got the no.10 spot and the only position for the most populous black nation. Below are the sexy ambassadors from Africa.....

10. Genevieve Nnaji - NigeriaGenevieve is Nollywood's brightest star. She has appeared in countless movies and is also a singer and spokesmodel. She is the face for Lux soap. She released an album titled No More. Genevieve says music was her first love even before acting but it is definately acting that has made her the star she is today. She has played everything from a love interest to a 'shoot em up' chick. Some call her Sharon Stone. We call her sexy.

9. Alek Wek - SudanHer skin has been kissed by the sun. She is known on a first name basis all over the world. She single handedly changed the way beauty is viewed when she stepped on the fashion scene a decade ago. We love her because she could have paid big money to change her looks once she made it big and she didn't. She is proud of looking like a Dinka girl. She is proud to be African and to look African and challenges whoever doesn't accept it to keep it moving. Her confidence makes her one very sexy lady.

8.Thandie Newton - ZimbabweThandie proves herself as a contender for an Oscar in every role she takes. It was hard for people to see someone so beautiful play the role she played in the movie Beloved but she did it. She went toe to toe with Oprah Winfrey and Kimberly Elise and came out unscathed. Tom Cruise and Will Smith are just two of her leading men. She went there in Crash and won awards for it. Is there anything she can't do? She makes raising her two children and looking like that very easy. Thandie is one sexy Mama.

7. Miriam Chemoss - KenyaShe is more than a triple threat. This beautiful African Queen is a singer/dancer, model, and a full time actress. She has appeared on the CBS show District and has set her sights on Hollywood. Miriam developed her performance skills as a member of The Mavalletes Revue. She then joined the legandary Soukous Stars Band and held her own as the sole female in the band. Miriam released a new single Rudi this year.

6. Angel Melaku - Ethiopia She appeared on the cover of Black Men magazine with the words "Angel the New It Girl for 07". She is the video vixen for 2007. She currently stars with Kanye West and T-Pain in the video for Good Life. She has also appeared in videos for Trey Songz, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes, Young Buck, and Young Jeezy. She has set her sights on Hollywood and vows that she won't rest till she gets there!

5. Honorine Uwera - RwandaHer lips alone give Angelina Jolie a run for her money. This Rwandan beauty immigrated to Canada in the late 90's. A modeling scout found her and the rest as they say is history. She has graced the runway for Issey Miyake, Emanuel Ungaro, Baby Phat, Richard Chai, Ruffian, Vivienne Westwood and Antonio Marras. She was featured in the Roca Wear Spring 2005 campaign with Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova.

4. Flavania Matata - Tanzania This beauty queen represented her country Tanzania at this year's Miss Universe and she was a top contender. We loved her sass and the fact that she didn't put a wig of long flowing hair on top of her bald head. She looked beautiful bald and she stood out. When asked what the judges should know about her she replied, "I am an electrical technician by profession as well as a top model in my country. I never let anyone define me neither by hair nor clothing as I believe God made me perfect as a pure, natural African woman." Amen to that!

3. Rhian Benson - GhanaRhian released her debut album Gold Coast in 2003 to critical acclaim. She won a MOBO award. Her passion for music is in her blood - her grandfather led an accclaimed big band in the 50's and 60's in Ghana. Rhian wrote her first song at age 9. She has the brains to go with her beauty - she was at Harvard when her mother got seriously ill. She left Harvard to care for her mother. Rhian is gearing up for her sophmore release.

2. Tiguida - MaliThis 21 year old beauty from Mali is a rising Model on the French Fashion scene. She has done several photoshoots for Parisians magazines and numerous fashions parades for well renowned names like Elit, Imane Ayissi and L'Oreal. The limitations on black models in France have made her travel to Africa, Italy, and the U.S.A for work.

1.Iman - SomaliaIman proves that sexy doesn't have to stop. She looks good next to very young girls. She paved the way for all the African models doing big things right now. Let's never forget that. She's been on the covers of Black Enterprise, Ebony, and Vanity Fair lately. Her cosmetics line has ethnic women all over the world looking good. If only we could all look this sexy in years to come!

Independence Beach Fiesta.....

It could well be described as the biggest jam this year in October, though a party with a difference. Of-course you know when there is a superstar like 9ice in the house, the feeling aint gonna be the same. That was what went down at Kuramo beach, lekki in Lagos precisely on October 1, 2008 when the Lagos State Beach Soccer Association in collabo with Media Vision Limited staged the 1st annual beach soccer tournament in Lagos. The event featured beach teams in Lagos slugging it out for the ultimate cup and cash prize of N40,000 alongside medals being given to semi-finalists. Among particpating team s were Ibeju Lekki FC, Young Strikers of Lagos Island, Owibesebe FC of Ojo, Eti-Osa FC.
Great beach football skills were displayed to the admiration of spectators who trouped out in large crowd to cheer their respective teams. The football event also was graced by the Beach soccer ambassador himself, the one and only Nigeria’s midfield maestro Austin JayJay Okocha to honour the invitation given him by the Lagos State’s Youth and Sports Commission under the direction of Prince Adeniji Adele. Not only was the showpiece graced by the football icon, some members of the Association of Nigerian Theater Practitioners (ANTP) in persons of Chief Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Prince Jide Kosoko (Jide babs), Racheal Oniga, and others. At intervals during the matches played, great dance moves were dished out by arguably the no.1 dance chic Kaffy and her dance group who really lived up to the billing.
In the third-place match played, Owibesebe FC of Ojo defeated Ibeju-Lekki FC by 3-2 on penalties after regulation time ended 4-4 i.e. 7-6 on aggregrate. And in the final, the Young strikers of Lagos Island outclassed their counterpart from Eti-Osa FC by 3-1, thus becoming the first beach team to win the maiden edition of the Lagos Beach Soccer competition. The champions went home with a sum of N40,000 and presented the trophy with their medals; second-best team took home N30,000 with medals and cash prizes were also given to the most valuable payer and Highest goal scorer.
After the finals, then came the moment all have been waiting for the Gongo Aso crooner to perform and as expected he “stole the whole show” delivering vibes from his ground-breaking album, Gongo Aso with hit tracks like Photocopy, Street Credibility, Party Ryder, and collabo track with Lord of Ajasa Lenu fenu so. It was like the fun should never stop. Really everyone had a 9ice time including yours truly.

Second edition of the Lagos beach Soccer competition will come up next year god-willing in October. Till then enjoy the rest of the year.....

Homosexuality: The Next Revolution??

Though seen as ‘absurd’ by the majority, the few minority don’t seem bothered about media reports. Homosexuality, taken from the female or male perspective, entails the union or merging of same sex partners for friendship or intimate relationships. This phenomenon has undoubtedly raised many eyebrows within the society especially from the religious bodies and the anti-homosexual groups. Before now, homosexuals whether gays or lesbians often feel timid to come-out openly declaring their status or exhibiting such ‘emotions’ among one another.

Well, time’s past and the same ‘inconsiderate’ society have now turned to a more hospitable one for homosexuals. The human rights decrees state vividly the rights to choose or belong to any association however, not to the detriment of the society at large.
After the stone-age, then came industrial-age, later was emerging to technological-age. And very soon the world might be experiencing the Homosexual-age as well.
I hold no strong opposition to lesbians or gays, this article is borne out of observation. Just about 2 weeks ago, the VP candidate of the Republican party Mrs. Sarah Palin was blasted for her recent comments against homosexuals, and of-course this might have adverse effect on their campaign towards the race for the US ‘White House’. In another development, an actor of the Star Wars fame got married to his same sex partner amidst grand reception; he was pretty happy about the long-awaited wedding. Still on this revolution, it wouldn’t have been imagined the screening of a film on homosexuals in India let alone the star actresses involved. India as a nation is known for strong Hinduism with little regard for gay or lesbian relationships, but soon would be experiencing more flicks promoting such acts. Already a new movie is under way featuring two prominent Bollywood actresses Lisa ray and Shilpa Shetty (though either of these actresses has not been confirmed as real lesbians).
Taking a trip down to Africa specifically Nigeria where the rate of these ‘aliens’ is increasing by the number in spite of criticism against it. And same for other continents of the world.

Consequently, what remains to be seen is the dominance of same-sex partners in our society. The picture is becoming clearer which calls for the need to brace-up for the new revolution?!

Jolie supports Obama...

Angelina Jolie Supports ObamaAngelina Jolie isn't giving away who she's backing in the U.S. presidential election, but she does have good things to say about Barack Obama. The actress and activist tells the German edition of Vanity Fair that the Democratic contender for president comes down on the same side of several issues that she does. Asked if she finds Obama and his background an example to her family, she replies, "Naturally that's good, but it's not a sufficient reason to vote for him. Obama fights for international justice, he wants to militarily intervene in cases of genocide, and close Guantanamo Bay. These are the things that could move me to vote for him, not his roots." She then adds, "Naturally, an American president like Barack Obama would be nice for my family." Jolie and actor Brad Pitt are parents to six children, three of whom were adopted from other nations Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam. Obama's family similarly has members from different countries: his mother is American and his late father was Kenyan. Jolie's father, Jon Voight, has previously campaigned for Republican candidate John McCain.

Michelle regrets Destiny Child's Split
Former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams has revealed that she fell into a depression when the group split. The band had a brief hiatus before reforming for their final studio album Destiny Fulfilled in 2004. Williams told You magazine that she felt miserable because she missed bandmates Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland. The 'We Break The Dawn' singer said: "We all went through a depression when Destiny's Child broke up."I remember going out to lunch with a friend and he asked how Beyoncé and Kelly were and I burst into tears because I missed them so much and he suggested I needed counselling!"It wasn't that bad, just a natural response after spending so much time together."

Brad Pitt turns "Home Saviour"
The first homes in Brad Pitt's Make It Right rebuilding project are complete, and some three years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, 68-year-old grandmother Gloria Guy was on hand to give the actor a big hug. Pitt, his partner Angelina Jolie and their family of six children privately toured the hard-hit Lower 9th Ward district earlier this week. The celebrity couple bought a home in New Orleans about a year after Katrina struck and became involved in launching the project to help rebuild the city's hardest-hit neighborhood. "I thank God for Brad Pitt," Guy said Thursday when reporters viewed the first six homes Pitt and family visited Monday and Tuesday. "I told him how much I appreciate all that he's done for me and my family." The replacement homes cost an average $150,000 each and are for residents who still own their property and can pay insurance and taxes. Their monthly house payments will be based on applicants' income and subsidized by funds raised by Pitt's foundation.

O.J. Simpson still Hopeful
O.J. Simpson is convinced he will win the appeal in his armed robbery and kidnapping trial - because jury interviews show he was "railroaded" by the court judge.
Simpson, 61, was found guilty of all 12 counts in the trial earlier this month (03Oct08), stemming from a heist he took part in at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last year (Sep07). He and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart, are currently being held in a Las Vegas jail where they face life imprisonment when they are sentenced on 5 December (08).
But his attorney Yale Galanter insists his client is confident he will be freed from behind bars, blaming the ruling on Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass' decisions during jury selection and her instructions to the panel.
Galanter tells the New York Daily News, "He is really very hopeful now, especially after the jury interviews. He knows that he was absolutely railroaded."
Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping after he and his accomplices stormed a Las Vegas hotel room to seize memorabilia from collectors.
His lawyers filed motions seeking a new trial on Friday (10Oct08), claiming insufficient evidence and judicial errors.

Obama Holds Concert....

Politician's Son Indicted over Palin's emails
The son of a Democratic politician has been indicted over the hacking of US Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's e-mail account. At a court in Knoxville, Tennessee, David Kernell, 20, pleaded not guilty to gaining unauthorised access to Mrs Palin's Yahoo account. Prosecutors say he posted some of the messages and her password online. Mr Kernell, an economics student at the University of Tennessee, is the son of state congressman Mike Kernell. His father denies having anything to do with the hacking incident. The indictment charged Mr Kernell with accessing Mrs Palin's account, gov.palin@yahoo.com, after correctly answering a series of personal questions. Mr Kernell had turned himself in "as soon as we found out about the charges," according to his lawyer, Wade Davies, who spoke to reporters after the federal court hearing. Mr Kernell faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted plus a $250,000 (£145,000) fine and three years of supervised release. Mr Kernell was released without bail, but limits were set on his computer use.

Palin Stands Guilty of Charge!
In a related development, the running mate of US Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been found guilty of an abuse of power, according to a state legislature probe. Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin was accused of sacking a senior state official over a family feud. But the McCain-Palin campaign team said that the report showed Mrs Palin acted within "proper and lawful authority". The report could have an impact on Republican hopes of winning next month's US presidential election. "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110 (a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act," investigator Steve Branchflower concluded in the panel's 263-page report. Mrs Palin has always denied any wrongdoing, and her supporters say the charges were motivated by her political opponents. "This was a partisan-led inquiry run by [Democratic candidate Barack] Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern," a McCain campaign spokesperson said.

Obama Hosts Benefit Concert
Multi-platinum recording artist and five time Grammy Award winner John Legend has joined the line-up for a benefit concert for Democratic party presidential nominee Barack Obama at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, October 16, it was announced today. The historic benefit concert, scheduled for the day following Senator Obama's final debate with Republican party nominee Senator John McCain, will include performances by Legend's Columbia Records labelmates Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel. The concert marks the first time Legend, Springsteen and Joel have ever performed at the same event. Legend, who endorsed Barack Obama earlier this year, premiered "If You're Out There," a new song from his forthcoming album Evolver during a set at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado in August. A call-to-action and evocation of human potential, "If You're Out There" reflects the themes of hope and change, responsibility and leadership, and commitment to a better tomorrow expressed in the principles of Barack Obama and the hearts of the American people.

Brad's Good gesture... and more stories

Brad Pitt gives back to Society...
Brad Pitt's housing project in New Orleans, Louisiana has seen its first successful intake of residents move into their new homes. The Ocean's Eleven star set up the Make It Right Foundation with a goal of financing 150 homes in the city to help rebuild the area after it was ravaged by 2005's Hurricane Katrina. He recently announced that the target was right on track and has so far funded the construction on 90 houses after accepting donations from the American Idol Foundation and celebrity friends including actor George Clooney. And the first wave of residents have now set up home in the new properties. Grandmother Gloria Guy, 68, who is among the lucky few, says, "I thank God for Brad Pitt." Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie paid a visit to the city last week (ends10Oct08) during a brief trip to the U.S. to check up on the project's progress.

Melanie Brown denies Playboy!
Pop star and lingerie model MELANIE BROWN has turned down a $1.85 million (GBP1 million) offer to pose nude for Playboy - because she limits her naked antics to the bedroom. The former Spice Girl, who strips down to her lacy underwear as the spokesmodel for Ultimo, insists she would never shed all her clothes for the men's magazine. She tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "No, I'm not going to do it."
But that doesn't mean Brown isn't an exhibitionist - she just prefers to show off her naked body to her husband Stephen Belafonte in the privacy of their own home: "There is (an exhibitionist side to me) - in my bedroom, late at night for hours on end!"

Happy Independence Day....

Congratulations Nigeria, we are a year older and to acknowledge Naija's independence day on October 1, there is need to reflect on the country's situations. You can as well enjoy the latest updates around the world of Politics and Entertainment, and much more! trust me you can get this anywhere else....

Nigeria: 48yrs After
Wow! According to the Yorubas they usually say this, “Omode kii pe da gba o” meaning - it doesn’t take so long for a child grow. Nigeria, the biggest black nation and self-acclaimed giant of Africa, is 48yrs today. 48yrs since gaining independence under the colonial masters. Reminiscent the past years of struggle, power tussle, and oppression, one could have swiftly concluded that Nigeria would not stay this long as an entity. Still, with over 140million of people in population, the nation has hence shown its capability to propel itself against all odds practicing democratic governance known as the Govt. of the people…for the people…and by the people. Celebrating a year older is obviously no joke taken into cognizance the challenges faced during such phase. However, this year’s anniversary has been put to be a low-key one as urged by the nation’s no.1 citizen Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua. Indeed it calls for real sober reflections bcos the event coincided with the annual Eid-Il-Fitr festival observed by the Muslim faithful after successfully ending the year’s Ramadhan fasting.
This article is thus concerned with the Ups & Downs of over a year into the present administration. Let’s check out how the country has fed in a few key areas of our social lives; Health, Education and Entertainment which i tagged the H-E-E code.
Health: the wise saying, “a healthy nation is indeed a wealthy one” could not just be ignored at the slightest instance. You would agree with me that Nigeria has had its own fair share in this sector. Over the years, there have been cases of dreadful diseases ranging from Cholera, Diarrhea to Diabetes, Cancer, Malaria, and even the prominent HIV/AIDS (still got no cure); presently a scenario effectively managed though with skirmishes here or there. At least, the fight against these life-wreckers is ongoing and intense. Except for the fact that our elites have deemed it fit to still pass a vote of doubt in the country’s health sector instead of encouraging its drive for more efficiency. This area is one which requires a diagnostic approach.
Education: wow! It has not been worse than this in past years as this sector has greatly suffered in the hands of successive governments. The country’s budget does not adequately cater for education as a priority been laid down by the United Nations (UN). Worst-still is the epileptic calls for industrial actions by Labour. It has always been a case in the middle of either the State or Federal Govt. (as the case may be) and any of the labour arm i.e. between Govt. and NUT or ASUU or NASU, or even Govt. vs Civil servants. During hostilities, the pupils and students are the poor ones who often bear the brunt while the government sits back and watch proceedings until it becomes unbearable on its part. This ‘gesture’ has greatly shown the kind of governance and leadership structure we have which is not worthy of the positive media image it demands arrogantly. The Yar’Adua regime that started on a rewarding note however has also taken to the queue of past careless leaders.
Entertainment: unlike the aforementioned sectors highlighted earlier in the article, the Showbiz industry in Nigeria has witnessed a B-O-O-M! Spanking hot performances from foreign artistes and of-course from our own superstars over here, it couldn’t have been better. This is one sure way of wooing the corporate organizations to “cough-out” chunks of money for maximum entertainment and viable tool as well. The nation’s movie industry otherwise known as Nollywood is not doing bad at all the moment, topping the list in Africa and third placed in the world behind India's Bollywood and America’s Hollywood. Comedy now wears a new look whereby comedians not only manage shows here in Nigeria but also in the White man’s land. With the likes of Gandoki, Okey Bakassi, Basket Mouth, Omobaba, Gbenga Adeyinka de 1st, smiling to the banks from this mere “comedy”, of-course they could only wish for more. However, the huge impact of the people on this nation and even to the rest of the world has been much more felt in the music industry. Leading the pack is Africa’s pride and Nigeria’s finest Tuface Idibia a.k.a “Mr. Unstoppable” who has not only put Nigeria as a household on the continent but the world over with MTV Europe and MOBO awards in his kitty alongside several national and international plaques. Also on the list of music artistes making waves are 9ice, D’banj, Olu Maintain, P-square, to mention but a few, with credible awards as well.

Undoubtedly, celebration of Nigeria’s 48th anniversary comes with mixed feelings from the citizens themselves owing to different reasons; some good….bad, and some really ugly. Anyways, I think we should mark this day as another step ahead and hope for a more meaningful and brighter nation in the nearest future.

News: Power Share Fallout...and more

Power Share Fallout
Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says talks with President Mugabe have failed to produce agreement on cabinet posts. MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa accused Mr Mugabe of demanding all the key ministries for his Zanu-PF party in the new unity government. He was speaking after a meeting between MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and the Zimbabwean President. A power-sharing deal was signed two weeks ago to end the political crisis. Mr Chamisa said the opposition and Mr Mugabe remained far apart on the issue of who should control which ministries.

Preparing for Voting ahead U.S.Elections
Early voting is getting under way in the US battleground state of Ohio, five weeks exactly before the 4 November presidential election. It comes a day after Ohio courts ruled that new voters could register and cast an absentee ballot on the same day. Republicans, who argue same-day voting opens the door to voter fraud, opposed the measure; Democrats backed it. Both John McCain and Barack Obama have been campaigning hard in Ohio, seen as a key swing state. John McCain, accompanied by running mate Sarah Palin, used a rally in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday to attack his Democratic rival over his economic policies. Mrs Palin, Republican governor of Alaska, is preparing for the vice-presidential debate scheduled for Thursday night, in which she and Democrat Joe Biden will face each other for the first time.
She has come under increasing pressure after a series of TV interviews which critics say have exposed her lack of readiness for the role.

UK Confirms economic Depression
The UK economy saw no growth in the second quarter of 2008, while the gap in the current account widened to its highest level in almost a year. Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed economic output remained the same as in the first quarter, confirming previous estimates. Growth was 0% in the second quarter - which was even lower than the 0.3% figure for the first quarter of 2008. Some analysts think the Bank of England may cut interest rates as a result. Output was revised up to 1.5% from a previous estimate of 1.4% year-on-year. The new data takes into account improved methodology and was revised back to 1961. This adds £19.5bn to the 2007 gross domestic product (GDP) figures.

janet jackson released from hospital
Janet Jackson has been released from a Montreal, Canada hospital after she was admitted to the emergency room with a mystery illness on Monday (29Sep08).
The R+B superstar was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday night, shortly before she was due to take to the stage for her latest stop on her Rock Witchu tour.
The Nasty singer "got suddenly ill" during a sound check and was taken to seek medical attention. But she was discharged after a brief consultation. Rebecca Burns, spokeswoman for the MCGill University Health Centre, which operates the hospital, says, "Yesterday evening she was checked into the Royal Victoria Hospital and left a couple of hours later."
The show in Montreal had to be postponed, with her representative blaming the cancellation on "production constraints". Further details of the star's health problems have yet to be released, although sources close to the 42 year old's boyfriend, music producer Jermaine Dupri, claim she has been suffering from exhaustion. According to an insider, "A 42-year-old body can't handle what a 22-year-old body can. I can tell you that she's definitely tired. It was probably exhaustion. She is doing back-to-back, three-hour shows, and her body isn't the same as it used to be." Jackson's Rock Witchu tour is her first in seven years. She is due to perform in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday night (01Oct08), but it is unknown as yet whether the show will go ahead as planned.

victoria parleys with paparazzi
Victoria Beckham will "never complain about the paparazzi" because she understands they are just part of life as a celebrity. The former Spice Girl admits that there are negative aspects to the press attention, but claims she has learned to accept their constant presence because it was her decision to step into the spotlight.
And she reveals that the snappers have also provided her with some of her favourite family pictures. She says, "(I) would never complain about paparazzi intrusion. I put myself in this position. I am a celebrity and so is (husband) David.
"Sometimes the paparazzi do get violent, they drive dangerously, and it's not fair to the kids. That's the sad thing about it. "The good thing (is) you never have to take a camera because somebody is always going to capture that moment…and they often re-touch the photos."

ODD NEWS....

A donkey from the northeast Egyptian city of Tanta has been sentenced to 24 hours in jail for stealing corn from a field owned by a local agricultural research center, the Al-Ahram weekly said on Thursday. The head of the research center called police after corncobs began vanishing from a field. The police laid a trap for the corn thief and subsequently caught a local donkey red-handed. Local media reported that the donkey's owner, a local farmer, then admitted to training the animal to steal corncobs. A local judge sentenced the donkey to 24 hours in jail and fined the farmer 50 Egyptian pounds ($9.5). This May, a donkey from the southern Mexican state of Chiapas was found guilty of assault and battery and thrown behind bars after he attacked two men.

SANTA TO BECOME U.S.PRESIDENT..
WASHINGTON, September 26 (RIA Novosti) - A man who changed his name to Santa Claus three years ago has successfully registered as a presidential candidate in the U.S. state of West Virginia, local authorities said. A total of 14 people, including an inmate at a Texas prison, have managed to register as write-in presidential candidates in the state, thanks to its simple registration process. "All they have to do is file a form at least 42 days before the election," a local electoral official said. Santa Claus, who sports a long white beard, changed his name from Thomas O'Connor in 2005. The write-in candidates' names will not appear on West Virginia ballots at the November election, but voters can write the name of any officially registered candidate on the ballot paper.

BREAST MILK BETTER THAN COW MILK!
A U.S. animal rights group has sent a letter to a major ice-cream producer suggesting that they replace cow milk with milk from lactating women in their products, the group said on Thursday. "The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream?" Tracy Reiman, vice-president of the Virginia-based nonprofit organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said in her letter to Ben and Jerry's. The organization cites Storchen, a new restaurant in Switzerland that earlier announced plans to replace at least 75% of the cow milk that it uses in its ice-cream with milk from female breasts. Ben and Jerry's, however, were cautious in their response. "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to the issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," the company said in a statement. PETA failed to mention in its letter that the Swiss restaurant abandoned its plans after government inspectors warned of possible legal action, saying that human milk was not on the list of approved dairy products.

Victoria Beckam drops Lawsuit ...+ more

Victoria Beckham has dropped her earnings lawsuit against US fashion firm Rock + Republic. The former Spice Girl filed the suit at London's High Court earlier this year, alleging that the company owed her up to £50 million in wages. She originally signed with the label in 2004 but left two years later after falling out with owner Michael Ball. According to rreports, she has now given up pursuit of the earnings and does not want to waste any further time or money on the matter. "Victoria had meetings with her [legal] team, who have advised her extensively on the case. She just wants to move on and focus on her own successful line of clothing and draw a line under the matter," said a source.

CHURCH REQUESTS FOR TATTOO
Charlotte Church reportedly wants boyfriend Gavin Henson to prove how he feels by dedicating a tattoo to her. The singer is thought to have been worried that Henson will cheat on her after she put on weight following the birth of their daughter Ruby. She is now expecting the couple's second child and told friends that she would like to see him make the commitment. "Charlotte has been begging Gavin to get her name tattooed on him as she's still terrified he will stray. She has been designing tattoos that he could get done. She thinks that because they're not married he should do one special thing for her," a source told Closer. Church previously insisted that she has no plans to marry the rugby player anytime soon. "We both think a wedding on a beach would be very romantic - when the time is right," she said.

MADONNA SLAMMED FOR ABOUT 135,000 POUNDS
Madonna has been fined £135,000 by Wembley Stadium for breaking a strict curfew when she performed at the venue earlier this month, according to a report. Artists are told that they must wrap up their gigs by 10.30pm when they play at the stadium, but it is claimed that Madonna ran over by 40 minutes when she brought her 'Sticky & Sweet' world tour to London on September 11. The Sun reports that she was fined £50,000 for every 15 minutes beyond the curfew. A source told the newspaper: "The concert was meant to start at 8.30pm but Madonna didn't come on stage until 9.10pm. The gig ended at 11.10pm so she was quite a bit over. Her people knew about the possible implications for going over the curfew but this is a pretty hefty fine, even for Madonna." Madge brings the European leg of her tour to a close tonight with a concert in Athens, Greece.

First Round - Obama Wins!!

US presidential rivals Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama have attacked each other over foreign policy and the economy, in their first debate.  Asked about a proposed $700bn (£380bn) bail-out of the US economy, Mr Obama said it was the "final verdict" on eight years of Republican policies.  On Iraq, Mr McCain praised the "surge" strategy, while Mr Obama said the US military had not been "used wisely".  Neither landed a knockout blow but polls suggested Mr Obama may have won.  An immediate telephone poll by CNN and Opinion Research Corp found 51% said Mr Obama had done the better job, to 38% for Mr McCain.  A poll of uncommitted voters by CBS News found that 39% gave Mr Obama victory, 25% thought John McCain had won, and 36% thought it was a draw.  Both campaigns claimed victory, with Mr McCain's team saying their candidate had shown a "mastery on national security issues" while Mr Obama's aides said he had passed the commander-in-chief test "with flying colours".

Chinese Astronaut walks in Space...

Three Chinese astronauts orbiting the Earth are about to take part in their country's first space walk.  One astronaut will leave the vessel for 20 minutes to conduct experiments while a second will don a spacesuit but remain in the spacecraft as back-up.  The operation will be broadcast live on television across China.  Conducting operations outside a spacecraft is essential if China is to fulfil its goal of building an orbiting station in the next few years.  The 42-year-old fighter pilot Zhai Zhigang is due to carry out the manoeuvre at 1630 Beijing Time (0830 GMT) on Saturday.  The Shenzhou VII capsule soared into orbit on a Long March II-F rocket from Jiuquan spaceport in north-west China.  The rocket put the Shenzhou capsule in a near-circular orbit more than 300km above the Earth.

Mugabe calls for Lift of Sanctions

In a remorse mood, Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has urged the lifting of what he called illegal sanctions against his country.  Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, he said the sanctions were hampering Zimbabwe's economy.  After his re-election in disputed polls this year, Western countries tightened measures against individuals and firms seen to be supporting Mr Mugabe.  At the UN, he also called for reform of the Security Council, saying it had become the tool of powerful countries.  Zimbabwe's economy has gone into a sharp crisis in recent years, with annual inflation officially standing at 11,000,000%.

Zulu Reed Dance Outdated!

The traditional Zulu reed dance is sexist and outdated, South Africa's Young Communist League (YCL) says.  YCL spokesman Castro Ngobese said the cultural practice in honour of the Zulu King Shaka makes women "chained prisoners of backwards traditions".  But traditionalists say the annual ceremony gives dignity to participants.  The YCL dedicated this year's Heritage Day events to a young girl who was raped during last weekend's reed dance celebrations in northern KwaZulu-Natal.  The South African press reported on Tuesday that a 14-year-old Zulu maiden who had been participating in the ceremony at King Goodwill Zwelithini's palace over the weekend was dragged outside and gang-raped.
