Independence Beach Fiesta.....

It could well be described as the biggest jam this year in October, though a party with a difference. Of-course you know when there is a superstar like 9ice in the house, the feeling aint gonna be the same. That was what went down at Kuramo beach, lekki in Lagos precisely on October 1, 2008 when the Lagos State Beach Soccer Association in collabo with Media Vision Limited staged the 1st annual beach soccer tournament in Lagos. The event featured beach teams in Lagos slugging it out for the ultimate cup and cash prize of N40,000 alongside medals being given to semi-finalists. Among particpating team s were Ibeju Lekki FC, Young Strikers of Lagos Island, Owibesebe FC of Ojo, Eti-Osa FC.
Great beach football skills were displayed to the admiration of spectators who trouped out in large crowd to cheer their respective teams. The football event also was graced by the Beach soccer ambassador himself, the one and only Nigeria’s midfield maestro Austin JayJay Okocha to honour the invitation given him by the Lagos State’s Youth and Sports Commission under the direction of Prince Adeniji Adele. Not only was the showpiece graced by the football icon, some members of the Association of Nigerian Theater Practitioners (ANTP) in persons of Chief Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Prince Jide Kosoko (Jide babs), Racheal Oniga, and others. At intervals during the matches played, great dance moves were dished out by arguably the no.1 dance chic Kaffy and her dance group who really lived up to the billing.
In the third-place match played, Owibesebe FC of Ojo defeated Ibeju-Lekki FC by 3-2 on penalties after regulation time ended 4-4 i.e. 7-6 on aggregrate. And in the final, the Young strikers of Lagos Island outclassed their counterpart from Eti-Osa FC by 3-1, thus becoming the first beach team to win the maiden edition of the Lagos Beach Soccer competition. The champions went home with a sum of N40,000 and presented the trophy with their medals; second-best team took home N30,000 with medals and cash prizes were also given to the most valuable payer and Highest goal scorer.
After the finals, then came the moment all have been waiting for the Gongo Aso crooner to perform and as expected he “stole the whole show” delivering vibes from his ground-breaking album, Gongo Aso with hit tracks like Photocopy, Street Credibility, Party Ryder, and collabo track with Lord of Ajasa Lenu fenu so. It was like the fun should never stop. Really everyone had a 9ice time including yours truly.

Second edition of the Lagos beach Soccer competition will come up next year god-willing in October. Till then enjoy the rest of the year.....
